John Sweeney

Planning and Advisory Services, Fidelity Investments

John Sweeney is executive vice president, Planning and Advisory Services for Fidelity Personal and Workplace Investing (PWI), a unit of Fidelity Investments, a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing and other financial products and services to more than 20 million individuals, institutions and financial intermediaries.

Mr. Sweeney acquired his current position in 2007 and is responsible for Portfolio Advisory Services, Fidelity's discretionary managed account business, and for the development of planning and guidance solutions, including guidance tools, estate planning and the advisor referral business. He is also responsible for Fidelity's Personal Trust business and sits on the board of Fidelity Personal Trust Company.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Sweeney was senior vice president, Mutual Fund Product Management, where he was responsible for product management, marketing and new product development for the 190 Fidelity retail mutual funds then in the Fidelity portfolio. He also managed Fidelity's FundsNetwork® business, overseeing the distribution and servicing of the 4,500 mutual funds sold through the retail, advisor, correspondent and institutional retirement platforms.

Mr. Sweeney joined Fidelity in 1998 as a director of Strategic New Business Development, responsible for developing growth strategies for internal Fidelity businesses and evaluating new business opportunities. In 2000, Mr. Sweeney was named vice president, Partnerships, for Fidelity Personal Investments (FPI), and in 2003 acted as vice president, Equity Mutual Fund Product Management, for FPI.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. Sweeney worked at American Express in New York, and he began his career in advertising and direct marketing.

Mr. Sweeney received his BA in history from the College of the Holy Cross and received an MBA from Cornell University, where he was elected president of his class.
